Neon Miacane: Game Concept and Design Elements - Thesis Application Study
Game Title: Neon Miacane: 2089 Aresia Rebellion
Genre: Science Fiction / MOBA
This symbol is a summary and representation of Neon Miacane’s deep conflict. This mark, embodying the anarchist spirit of MiacaneCity Zero, first emerged as a secret code among the city's resistance fighters. The people of the city began to use it to express their deep anger toward CorpSec’s oppressive regime and their yearning for justice.
Origins of the Symbol
The symbol was born as a challenge to the authority of CorpSec, which holds the power of the Aresia Sphere. The "X" represents both rejection and resistance, while the circle symbolizes unity and the strength of the community. However, the dripping effects around the circle signify that this unity is constantly under threat and imperfect. The symbol was initially drawn on walls in the Midresia district by a small art collective. The group described the symbol not just as graffiti art but also as a call to action: "To awaken the sleepers and unite the oppressed."
God Supporters’ Perspective
For God Supporters, the symbol is seen as an insult to divine order. According to them, the symbol is proof that humanity has chosen chaos and anarchy. However, some radical factions have tried to reinterpret the symbol, seeing it as a warning for "divine intervention."
CorpSec’s Reaction
CorpSec outlawed this symbol and declared its use a crime. Possessing or drawing the symbol leads to severe punishment. Yet, instead of halting its spread, this only fueled its proliferation. The symbol can now be seen in the city’s dark corners, abandoned buildings, and even on CorpSec propaganda posters. Neon-painted versions of the symbol light up the night sky, amplifying the voice of resistance.
Public Perception
For ordinary citizens, the symbol is a beacon of hope. For people crushed under CorpSec's oppression, it serves as a reminder that they are not alone and that they can still fight back. However, the widespread use of the symbol also carries risks; it could escalate CorpSec’s repression and cause further divisions.
The Symbol Today
Today, this symbol represents the identity of a populace caught between two opposing factions in Neon Miacane. For some, it is a banner of freedom and anarchy. For others, it is merely a stain that drags the city into chaos. Regardless, the symbol has become one of the most significant icons shaping the soul and conflicts of Neon Miacane.
The ongoing spread of the symbol keeps the city’s struggle alive and fuels the people’s desire for change.
This research examines the impact of character and environment design in science fiction- themed MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) games, focusing on a practical application based on graphic design principles. Considering the unique features of MOBA games, this study explores the role of computer games in the digital gaming industry, focusing on the use of innovative design elements in science fiction-themed games. Recognizing that the science fiction genre offers visual elements that challenge the imagination, complex narratives, advanced technologies, and alternative universes to provide players with a profound experience, the research demonstrates how this genre creates a foundation for creative approaches in game design.
Science fiction-themed MOBA games are identified as a relatively underexplored topic in academic literature. To bridge this gap, theoretical analyses were conducted, followed by the implementation of a practical application study. MOBA games were selected as the focal point due to their prominence as the leading game genre in 2024, their versatile structure that accommodates various themes, and their extensive roster of diverse characters. These features make them an ideal platform for examining the intersection of science fiction and graphic design principles. The application focused on the processes of character and environment design in line with the science fiction theme and examined how graphic design principles were strategically employed in these designs. The study emphasized principles such as color theory, composition, typography, and texture design to evoke emotional engagement in players and strengthen their connection to the fictional world. The methods and all stages of the design processes (concept development, detailing, and visual application) were grounded on a scientific basis and systematically concluded.
This research underscores the pivotal role of graphic design in enhancing both the visual appeal and functional aspects of game design. Through an in-depth examination of the design processes in science fiction-themed MOBA games, the study not only offers

theoretical insights but also bridges the gap in existing literature by presenting a tangible application. By focusing on underexplored areas within the science fiction-themed MOBA genre, this research highlights the potential of graphic design principles—such as color theory, composition, typography, and texture—to create immersive worlds and foster stronger emotional connections between players and the game environment. Furthermore, this study contributes to the academic discourse by showcasing how innovative design approaches can be effectively utilized to address the unique challenges and opportunities in science fiction-themed game development.
